Heres the press release that got sent out. This is just the text, she also made a really cool graphic to go behind the text, I'll see if I can get that from here as well.
Press Release Contact: Kevin Bryant Kathryn Mayes (785) 625-3014 (785) 650-9280
Feb. 5, 2004 For immediate release
Local inline hockey players defeat Division I collegiate team LEES SUMMIT, Mo. (Jan. 31, 2004) Ten members of a local inline hockey team braved hazardous road conditions to travel to Lees Summit, Mo., for an exhibition game against the Kansas State University inline hockey team. The team, Central Kansas Storm, defeated KSU 10-3. Of the 10 hockey players, eight were skaters, two were goalies. The game was set up by Mike Manteuffel, Hays resident, when he contacted KSU and inquired about the possibility of a game. According to Kevin Bryant, Hays resident, the team spent several months practicing seriously for the game. Although the team couldn’t practice for nearly two weeks due to inclement weather, the team didn’t see any consequences in their playing abilities. “We didn’t seem to lose a step; we went out and played a good game,” Bryant said. Saturday’s game marked Central Kansas Storm’s 4th competition play. This spring, members hope to compete in several tournaments, as well as have several fundraising events. By working at the Dream Theater in Russell, Kan., during the opening of the movie “Miracle”, Central Kansas Storm members hope to raise funds to pay for tournament entries. The team also plans to collaborate with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hays, and possibly sponsor a basic skills camp for the children. In September, the team is scheduled to give an instructional clinic in Hill City, Kan., for middle school students. Central Kansas Storm is comprised of members from the Russell and Hays communities. The team formed in 2001 with 8 players, and has grown to include 11 members, who range in age from 16-35. Inline hockey consists of five players: 4 skaters and 1 goalie. Despite the fact that all players wear inline skates, the scoring and rules are similar to those of ice hockey. -30-

Just got this email, and I have a response to it, We need to get a jersey ordered for him too, I'll find out what size he wants.
Good afternoon Kevin: This is Bryan Valentine from the University Leader and I am writing a story about the CKS and your win against Kansas State. If you could answer a couple of questions for me, I would really appreciate it.
1. How did it feel to defeat a Division I school? 2. What kind of tournaments have you played in the past? 3. What kind of fundraising are you wanting to do? 4. Can people still join the club and how can they do it?
If there is any way the Leader can help you with advertising, please feel free to contact me. I am the advertising manager.
The story, I hope, will run in Friday's paper. So the quicker you can respond the better.
Thanks
Bryan

this is too cool! It looks like the team is starting to make a name for itself. We could use all the free press that's available. Maybe we can start running our exhibition game and clinic ads in the university leader too? I love this!

i sent the release to the Russell Daily News just about a minute ago. I copied the one Kevin wrote earlier. The editor was in my office this morning and I asked why they hadn't put anything in their paper. They acted like they hadn't heard about it, but asked that I send the release to him today and he said it WILL go in the paper this week.
BTW, nice write up on the press relese Kevin
